The first meeting of the Association's
Choir group was held under the direction
of the famous Assyrian classical composer,
violinist
and choir director Maestro Nebu Issaby.
Assyrians form Iran fondly remember Maestro
Nebu's first choir group in that country
which was the pride of the Assyrian community.
It was featured on the National Iranian
T.V. and was also honored to sing for
the enjoyment of the late Shah, his
family
and his court.
After arriving in the United States Maestro
Nebu established another Assyrian choir
group in Chicago followed by an all American
choir group accompanied by instrumental
performance of the Northwestern University
students. The only Assyrian singer of
this choir was our own president Shamiram
Tabar.
Maestro Nebu also directed an Assyrian
church choir before departing for California.
In San Jose he formed another choir group
which traveled to LA to perform several
years ago. He presently directs the
Assyrian Catholic Church choir in that
city.
Maestro Nebu has
agreed to travel to Los Angeles on regular
basis to help
establish
and direct a choir here. During the
meeting of January 19th, twenty-three
members
registered to join the choir and more
are expected
to come forward later.
